Title: "Digital empowerment: ICT, virtual communities and contemporary migration to Denmark"
02.11.2017 kl. 13.00 - 02.11.2017 kl. 15.00
Labour migration has throughout history repeatedly characterized both Denmark and the rest of the world demographically, culturally, socially and politically. Each wave of migration has been perceived as special in the communities that have received immigrants, and in the communities that have lost a number of fellow citizens, who in different ways have retained the connection to their country of origin. The In the MiClue project we will, through the analysis of a limited number of migratory flows, analyse differences and similarities in migration and integration processes.
PhD fellow Sahra-Josephine Hjorth specifically explored labour migration to Denmark from Turkey and Romania starting in 1960’s and 2007 respectively.
In collaboration with the Danish Immigration Museum, Aalborg University and the Emigration Archives in Aalborg, MiClue project participants also disseminate their findings through collaborations with artists such as art photographer Diana Velasco, documentarist Mikkel Arnfred and animation satirists Gigis.
The pre-defence starts with a presentation by Sahra-Josephine Hjorth followed by the discussant's comments and an open discussion. The pre-defence will be in English.
