Techno-Anthropological Laboratory (TANTLab)
We develop new digital methods for research in the social sciences and humanities. This typically involves large volumes of unstructured data, often sourced from the web, which can be treated with various kinds of computationally intensive techniques. The physical lab space is equipped to support groups of researchers and their partners doing digital method projects together. It has an 84” touch screen that can be flipped horizontally as a table for data exploration; it has a number of high powered workstations (PC and Mac); it has a sophisticated VR system that enables 3D data immersion. The lab also hosts a series of software tools for data harvest, analysis and visualisation.
Center for RNA Medicine
The Center for RNA Medicine, Department of Clinical Medicine, Aalborg University, studies the roles of microRNAs and long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) in human health and disease. We are currently pursuing several research projects focusing on noncoding RNA (ncRNA) functions in the pathogenesis of cancer. Our ultimate goal is to translate our research findings into novel RNA-based therapeutic strategies for treatment of life-threatening diseases. The Center for RNA Medicine participates in the FANTOM6 project, and has a broad international network of research collaborators.
Samsung Media Innovation Lab (SMILE)
The Samsung Media Innovation Lab for Education (SMILE) makes it possible to experience the latest technological advances, and the Lab helps to accelerate the development of innovative computational media content by educating the next generation of mediatech-, storyworld- and game-developers while addressing future challenges of media technology and society.
Augmented Performance Lab
Augmented Performance Lab (APL) is a making, moving and hearing space that tackles technological, cultural and artistic co-creation projects. The technical equipment in APL captures, analyses, processes and displays real-time performance on the body, on augmented or hybrid musical instruments, tangible interfaces, reactive surfaces, or in space.
ResearchLab: IT, Learning & Design (ILD)
IT, Learning & Design (ILD) is developing new processes for learning using IT, where focus is to qualify and facilitate learning and enhancing creativity and innovation.
V-Lab is AAU CPH's combined student- and prototyping-workshop. Here you can get help to design and build physical models (scale models and fullscale models) for student projects. You can work with wood, cardboard, metal, plastic, foam and similar materials.
Manufakturet facilitates laboratory activities for programmes belonging to the Study Board of Media Technology.
Multisensory Experience Lab (ME-Lab)
In the Multisensory Experience Lab, we work on virtual reality and multisensory experiences, exploring the combination of different input and output modalities in interactive applications. We are interested in both development of novel hardware and software technologies as well as evaluation of user experience. We apply our technologies to health, rehabilitation, training, learning and entertainment. We are particularly interested in researching topics related to sonic interaction design for multimodal environments, simulating walking experiences, sound rendering and spatialisation, haptic interfaces, cinematic VR and evaluation of user experience in multimodal environments.
Augmented Cognition Lab
The Augmented Cognition Lab is dedicated to the study of perception, cognition, affective states and aesthetic experience in digital and multimodal media and cognitive technologies. It is well equipped technologically and methodologically to investigate such processes when experiencing and interacting with complex stimuli and narrative content provided through immersive and representational interactive displays. The lab is directed by associate professors Luis Emilio Bruni together and Sofia Dahl. Equipment: The lab counts with state of the art equipment for measuring brain activity (electroencephalography – EEG) and several psychophysiological measurement devices and methods such as muscle activity (EMG), eye-tracking devices, heart and pulse rate measurements, computer vision and thermal imaging technology for recognition of affective states, including a complete BCI research system, g.USBamp (CE-certified, FDA listed) with 32 channels with hardware and software for motor imagery/ERD, SSVEP-BCI and P300 ERP/BCI. It also counts with high performance computers and high resolution display systems for multimodal stimulus presentation (e.g. screens, augmented reality, virtual environments, 3D sound), software and game engines for the creation of engaging interactive virtual environments (e.g. Unity, CryEngine), and multimodal and tangible interfaces (e.g. Kinect, haptic controllers, eye-trackers).
CEAGAR Game Lab
The CEAGAR Game Lab (Center for Applied Game Research) at Aalborg University Copenhagen is used for designing, developing and evaluating games and interactive experiences based on game technologies.
Common study area for students from the Faculty of Humanities. The area consists of a large main room with a mixture of regular tables, chairs and sofa arrangements, and 6 smaller group rooms. There are 21 portable whiteboards, and each group room is equipped with iMacs, extra video monitors and professional studio speakers. The iMacs are equipped with the Adobe CS Suite and transcription software, but other software can also be arranged. In room 5.045 within Hum Lab, AV equipment can be borrowed by students and staff from the Faculty of Humanities.
Hum Lab Multifunctional Studio
Small AV focused studio space (8,5 x 5,5 x 4 m(d/w/h)) intended for video and photography. Mainly used for dark-room, green screen and audio recordings, as well as usability/eye-tracking. Has flexible lighting rig for fixtures. Is constantly under development and change depending on need. Belongs to the Department of Communication and Psychology, used by students and staff, hosts DigHumLab 2.0. The lab is also used for instruction purposes related to courses in Media Production. Open for collaboration.
Center robotics, vision and machine intelligence lab (rvmi)
The lab is funded through a number of EU projects, and all equipment is presently in use most of the time by researchers involved in the EU projects. However, the lab is also used by master students for 9th or 10th semester project work. Our robotics lab is a pure research lab and does not comply with the ISO safety regulations. Students are allowed in there only after a thorough introduction from the senior researchers. The robotics lab contains the hardware listed below, except for the Baxter Robot. The Baxter Robot is placed outside the lab in the group room of the GSD master students. The Baxter robot is easy to use and available to students from the MOE bachelor education and the GSD master students. We have ongoing collaborations with companies such as PSA Peugoet-Citroen, Scape Technologies, Blue-Ocean Robotics, BA-Systems, Universal Robots, Grundfos, KUKA and others through the MADE initiative. Companies are very welcome to contact us.
