New Interfaces for Musical Expression, also known as NIME, is an international conference dedicated to scientific research on the development of new technologies and their role in musical expression and artistic performance.
14.05.2017 kl. 10.00 - 19.05.2017 kl. 09.00
The 2017 edition of the conference takes place at Aalborg University Copenhagen organised by the Sound and Music Computing Group of the Department of Architecture, Design and Media Technology.
Researchers and musicians from all over the world gather to share their knowledge and late-breaking work on new musical interface design. The conference will feature talks, demonstrations, installations, workshops, posters and concerts in different locations in Copenhagen such as The Queen’s hall of the Black Diamond, the main hall of the Royal Academy of Music and Koncertkirken in Nørrebro. The last day of the conference will be shared with the Click festival, with a special event taking place in Helsingør.
The conference will kick off on Sunday the 14th with a NIME kids workshop. Here American composer and instrument builder Troy Rogers will help kids to build a percussion robot, which is then used in the afternoon in the Young composers’ workshop lead by the Copenhagen’s Figura Ensemble.
“We are looking forward to host such an excellent event, featuring many scientists, instruments makers, composers and musicians who are interested in exploring the possibilities given by building new musical instruments” says Stefania Serafin, Professor with special responsibilities in sound for multimodal environments at Aalborg University Copenhagen. Together with Associate professor Dan Overholt she is chairing the conference.
