About Aalborg University Copenhagen
Aalborg University Copenhagen (AAU-Cph) constitutes Aalborg University’s educational and research activities in the Greater Copenhagen Area. From September 1st 2012 all activities will be gathered at a new integratede research campus with several innovative start-up-business at Sydhavnen close to central Copenhagen.
At the moment most educational and research activities take place at the campus in Ballerup 13 km from central Copenhagen, while the researchers from the Danish Building Research Institute resides in Hørsholm and the students and staff at the Master programme in Social work shares campus with the university college of Metropol in Frederiksberg.
Since AAU-Cph first came to Copenhagen we have experienced a tremendous growth. Today AAU-Cph offers 7 Bachelor programmes and 14 Master programmes spanning the entire spectrum of the academic field from natural sciences to the humanities. More than 1,500 students are enrolled at AAU-Cph working side by side with 70 PhD students, 170 researchers and approximately 50 administrative employees.
Top-class research
About 170 researchers and more than 70 PhD fellows at AAU-Cph work in national and international research groups and networks to produce new and valuable interdisciplinary knowledge that will contribute to an improved and sustainable future.
Research activities at AAU-Cph are an integrated part of Aalborg University’s activities at the three campuses in Aalborg, Copenhagen and Esbjerg and are carried out in close collaboration with a wide variety of research institutions as well as public and private corporations.
Around 100 researchers and 70 PhD fellows from 11 of Aalborg Universities departments are represented at AAU-Cph and contributes with world class research and knowledge production within as varied areas as virtual reality, mobile communication, sustainable energy sources, organisational communications and processes of democracy in Latin America.

A unique study and work method
A trademark of Aalborg University is its unique pedagogic model of teaching: the problem-based, project-organized model. With this method a great part of the semester teaching and student work revolves around complex real-life problems that the students wonder about and try to find answers to in scientific manners while working together in groups. The more traditional forms of teaching are of course also used, e.g. lectures, courses, seminars, classroom training, laboratory work and workshops.
Research based educations
At AAU-Cph the study programs are research based. This means that the staff conducts research within the same area as they teach. That gives our students access to the most recent knowledge within the various academic areas, and furthermore they are taught by dedicated people who are enthusiastic about their fields and draw upon a wide variety of teaching materials. Teaching materials at AAU-Cph come not only from books but also from, for example, articles in current journals.
A good study environment.
Both students and employees know each other across fields of study and yearly intakes. Thus, as a student, you will quickly feel comfortable and welcome. As a part of AAU-Cph, you are ensured a high professional competency and a widespread network, which covers both staff and the approximately 16,000 students across the three campusses of Aalborg University, as well as our many partners from the business world.
Students attend courses in ultra-modern classrooms, multimedia workshops and hi-tech laboratories, and individual workspaces with powerful computers and measuring equipment are available for students working alone or in groups.

The Danish Building Research Institute
On January 1, 2007 Aalborg University and the Danish Building Research Institute merged. The merger initiated a comprehensive center for knowledge about the built environment. The goal of the center is to become the leading place of its kind in Denmark and to be considered on par with similar centers internationally.
The new centre offers the best expertise in the country within research, education, consultancy, cooperation with companies, and knowledge dissemination with regard to the built environment, i.e., building and physical planning. Aalborg University and the Danish Building Research Institute currently have 281 researchers and Ph.D. students and the intention is that this number will grow.
